The pet revolution starts with you: spay and neuter your pets

One of the causes that is nearest and dearest to my heart is reducing animal overpopulation. I feel very strongly about rescuing homeless animals and do my best at encouraging others to do the same. The key to being effective is in education, however. Knowledge is power! My goal once David makes it to “the show” is to create a foundation that will educate our youth regarding these pressing issues.
In a country where the ratio of dogs and cats to humans is 7 to 1, it doesn’t take much to realize we are in the midst of a pet over-population and euthanasia crisis. The most effective, and quite frankly the only way to alleviate this issue, which has been plaguing this nation for decades, is to be responsible pet owners and spay and neuter our pets.
In America alone, nearly 60% of dogs and over 75% of cats in shelters do not make it out alive. This number jumps substantially in urban areas, where it is not unusual to see numbers as high as 98% for cats and 75% for dogs.
In order to make a dent in the overwhelming number of animals euthanized in shelters each year, approximately 4.5 Million, we need to spread the word and ask all our friends and family to spay and neuter their pets. If we can stop accidental breeding, as well as uneducated breeding, we can significantly reduce the number of pets that end up in shelters across the nation and subsequently, the kill rates for unadopted pets that are otherwise perfectly healthy.
Despite many misconceptions, sterilizing your pets by spaying and neutering them is actually better for them, both biologically and psychologically. Male dogs are much happier and experience less male dominance frustration. Female dogs can rest easy by not attracting unwanted attention from males due to pheromones emitted while in heat. In cats, you will have much fewer issues with marking and you won’t have to worry about the fact that your female cat can get pregnant every 3 months.
We need you to join the revolution. Spay and neuter your pets today!

Vegan Tuesdays like a PRO

It’s Tuesday folks and you know what that means!   Today I have a few firsts to share with everyone.     A few days ago I found out that I have been added to the MLB PRO Blogroll, which is downright exciting.    I started my blog back in March as a way to express myself and commit to writing.   I have really enjoyed sharing my thoughts with all my readers and I am happy to hear that people are enjoying it!  I wanted to thank Mark Newman at MLB.com for being so kind and really welcoming me with open arms.   For more MLBlogs, you can check out the June leaders on MLB.com Blogs Central.
Next I want to share with you my discovery of an amazing green brand whose mission is “To Enhance the Lives of Those We Touch by Helping People Reach Their Goals”.   A few weeks ago I was on the hunt for a job that would afford me the luxury to work from home and what I found was nothing short of a blessing.   Melaleuca is known as a $1+ billion wellness company, which is great, but what stood out for me is the fact that they have been green since their inception, before being green was even popular.  We are talking allllll the way back to 1985, two years before I even saw the light of day.
Being a vegan and someone who believes that it is our duty to take care of the amazing world we live in, instead of taking it for granted, I felt like discovering Melaleuca was divine intervention.    I now rest easy knowing that the products I buy every month are not only safe for me and my husband, but they are also safe for my animals and the Earth.   I have always had legitimate concerns about buying products that are full of toxins and dangerous chemicals and that also test on animals – you would be surprised at how many companies still practice this – but I can honestly say that my worries are at bay.
If you would like more information about Melaleuca, feel free to email me at c.campins@yahoo.com.
Cheers to the Earth and to the animals!

Vegan Tuesdays

Good morning everyone!   Today I am going to share a new recipe that I tried this week for a black bean salad.    I originally got the idea from Once Upon a Chef, but I chose to free hand mine with tomato instead of pepper.
My recipe consisted of: 1 california avocado, 2 small tomatoes, a 16 oz can of black beans rinsed, 1/2 cup of corn and the following to taste, lime juice, salt, pepper, parsley, cayenne pepper, and garlic.
I was able to enjoy this for 4 days after I made it and combined it with everything from Brussels Sprouts to Sweet Potatoes, to No-Chicken vegan nuggets.
That’s all for now folks.  Enjoy!

Thank You My Lovely
